I trudicated this at "Although unnecessary" to make this point about levels.
When I first started on LS I had read another book which talked about
evolutionary levels which had 12 major levels with other 14 sublevels. That
coupled with a looked at Doug's Quantonics site led me to think that at the
least Pirsig had left out an energy level below inorganic.

After more thought I've come to the conclusion it is not only unnecessary, but
undesirable, to add more levels. Electronuclear forces, quarks, neutrinos can
metaphysically reside on the inorganic level without creating platypi. But the
addition of more levels adds unnecessary complexity to a system which has
increased the metaphysical complexity many fold over the current SOM system.
With two elements, subjects and objects, as a base man has created several
cubic millinia of discord imagine what we can do with five elements.
ISP-OSP-SSP-ISP-DQ. Rather I'm beginning to think it might be more productive
to looking at the possiblity of sublevels within the four levels.

Why? Because if everything is moving toward good-excellance-DQ then at some
point in time individual elements cross the boundaries between levels. How can
we know when this has happened? Because when that happens it changes the rules
on how we deal with that element and that element deals with us! Ishmael a
Novel by Daniel Quinn raises this specter.

If the mystic can increase his awareness through yoga or other such practices
and it simplifies existence,Great. But must this practice lie outside the
current bounds of MoQ.
I fact wasn't Pirsig's stated goal from the start to bring mystism back into
the fold of Western philosophy.
