Bob,

We seem to share very similar ideas. I like your perspective. Einstein said
that the universe is a feeling. Being a Pirsig follower, I might add that the
universe is a good feeling.
I find agreement with most monistic philosophies and theologies; however, I
meditated for about fifteen years as a youth but never did achieve that
enlightened, blissful state. Nor have I met anyone who really has either. Not
to say they're not out there. I just never met them. Pirsig doesn't seem to
be blissful, but he sure sounds enlightened to me.
I think people like Jesus, Moses, the Buddha, etc... probably started off
life with pretty much enlightened souls to begin with. What do they call them
in the east, Astoris (spelling?) Enlightened souls who return to earth to
teach us the way.

These days instead of meditating, I try a kind of free associaton thinking,
and contemplate whatever pops into my mind. What ever works for each
individual is good, I think. That's how I write my comedy too (I do stand
up). I studied philosophy in college and ended up a comic. Now I sell cheap
thoughts for a living. Kinda the same thing.

I totally agree with you in thinking that UFO followers use it to replace
religion, or a spiritual belief system. I first thought that when I was
eighteen; now that I'm forty, my opinion hasn't changed. I've found this
UFOism very prevalent in the entertainment industry. It seems like
intellectuals in the industry, also in communist countries, are very hostile
toward religion. Unfortunately, it is manifested in their work, and they have
a far reaching influence. It's o.k. to blow a guy's head off, that's
entertaining, but god forbid they mention any spiritual values. High tech
explosions and special effects have replaced good writing, and it's a bit
discouraging for me.

That's why I've enjoyed reading the MoQ discussions. It gives me some hope
that there still are some very intelligent and spirtual thinkers out there,
and the fact that intellectual and spiritual do not need to be opposing
factions.

Thanks again for your insights.
Fred
