A story you might be interested in.
When I was 18 years old, over two or three days, for no apparent reason,
I found myself moving into a state of immense, extraordinarily deep, and
intense peace, joy and bliss. It seemed to be coming from 'deep' within
me, if that makes any sense. It lasted about two weeks. At the same
time, I found my mind to be more 'awake' and clear than it had ever
been.
This lasted about two weeks. One night, as I was lying in bed, these
feelings became so intense that that I got the impression that not only
was it coming from within me, it seemed to be coming from outside me,
almost as if I was immersed in it. What was inside me was same as
outside. It was the most 'real' thing I ever experienced.
Later, when I started reading about these things, the only explanation
I found was in the 'mystical' philosophies. I realized I had experienced
a part of it.
I know materialistic science explains this as biological, brain
endorphins, etc. but I've never been able to accept this explanation.
I also found myself stuck with science on the one hand and mystical
philosophy on the other, and I'm not smart enough to reconcile both.
But when I ran across Pirsig, it was like being released from an
intellectual prison. I'll be grateful to him for the rest of my life.
I finally had a framework I could use.
