Dear Mari,
In reply to your 6 Dec 2002 07:18:55 -0500 posting:
For me combining 'new' and 'type' implies a qualitative leap and not just a
quantitative leap between levels.
The jump from biological to social level for instance is not just the
addition of an extra "straw that broke the camels back", but the addition to
DNA of 'culture-copying' as a static latch of Quality.
I don't understand what you mean with 'A "pattern" is simply X isn't it?'.
I cannot define 'value' and 'Quality'. They define me.
I don't use the Lords Prayer. It is part of a story that has some value to
me, but when, by whom, in what language it was written and translated is
hardly relevant for that value it has to me. It conveys to me a 'father'
metaphor for God. In the course of the Bible (i.e. in the course of the
centuries of Jewish/human experience with God described in that book)
God-as-experienced-by-men seems to come closer to humanity (creator >
judge/king > father > spirit descending on all that lives). It marks a stage
in that larger story.
With friendly greetings,
Wim
