mel:
Look for D.T. Suzuki's introductory works on
ZEN. He did a credible job of contrasting
the Buddhist 'psychology' from what the
basic concept of 'western' psychology seems
to present.
Buddhism as it relates to mind is very much
a psychology to the point of phenomenology...
Hinduism teaches a somewhat inverse view
of the mind as it relates to world, that provides
a good contrast.
The western psychology is somewhat converse
to both, placing self on a bit of a pedestal.
thanks--mel
