Mark 9-8-04: This is very interesting. Northrop's The meeting of East and West explores the transfer of this view into South American culture. There, Jesus on the cross is not worshiped, but the Virgin Mary is. That is why she is the icon found displayed in cars, keyrings, little alters, and all the rest of it. I feel the feminine is worshiped because it is more Dynamic. On the AHP93 tape, Pirsig muses as the whether the masculine/feminine biases between cultures is their source of conflict, mistrust and hatred.

Have you ever seen a women in rage?  Maybe to protect her children, her family, her man?  I've seen Iraqi women expressing such rage.  I'm sure she'd tear the eyes out of the killers of her family.  There are many aspects of the feminine missing from Mary and her cohorts.  It's like having ones foot bound.  Such confinement creates very strange distortions.   Don't you think?
