Hi Ham,
I'm sure Pirsig read more than your preface in response to you inquiry,
but he needn't have. When you wrote, "It is offered freely in the
knowledge that nothing short of a psycho-philosophical revelation will
awaken our nihilistic society to the cosmic significance of Freedom and
its implications in human experience," I can image Pirsig vigorously
nodding in agreement. In describing Dynamic Quality, "the source of all
things," he wrote, "Its only perceived good is freedom and its only
perceived evil is static quality itself--any pattern of one-sided fixed
values that tries to contain and kills the ongoing free force of life."
Freedom as the highest good is central to understanding the MOQ. It's the
basis of human rights and is essential to the "evolution of a higher level
of life from a lower level of life." (Lila, 24) Your emphasis on it in
your Essentialist philosophy bodes well. I look forward to reading more
about your philosophy as I have time.
Best,
Platt
