Horsepucky! Exactly what is a man to conclude
when you write "a mishmash of platitudes I've been reading my whole
life." Not only does that expose an absense of grace and civility on
your part, it suggests that you are indiscriminate in your choice of
reading material.
msh says:
I must admit I was a little surprised at Dan's tone, as he is usually
quite friendly, unlike myself. I think he was just cranky after
lugging all those books, and was hoping to discover some new thoughts
on the MOQ.
jm:
You might consider (if only as an experiment) encouraging new
participants in this Forum. You seem to be statically latched to a
covert set of rules for this Forum.
msh says:
Actually, the rules are quite explicit: One should have read ZMM and
LILA, at least.
jm:
Ham would not be the first to abandon the Forum after sniffing the
tone of postings which come all too frequently from regulars here.
msh says:
True, someone may choose to abandon the Forum when their opinions are
challenged. Whether or not the tone of the challenge is friendly is,
to me, subjective and, more important, irrelevant. This isn't a
sewing circle.
Except for his musings on Beauty, which themselves are quite
beautiful, my friend Platt Holden is wrong about everything (sorry
Platt ;-) ). Nevertheless he is here, just about every day,
sticking to his guns.
jm:
Would it be naivishly sophomoric to expect a little more kindness
here? You might want to explore the etymology of "philosophy" giving
particular attention to the first syllable.
msh says:
As above, kindness is irrelevant. It's sort of silly to post a
message to this forum asking our opinions of a philosophical idea,
only to be upset when we find fault with it.
"Philosophy" means love of wisdom, not love of philosophers.
Thank you,
Mark Steven Heyman (msh)
