Sure. Why not, Platt? If people are smart enough they can separate the wheat
from the chaff. Somewhere, buried in these voices of opposition you'll find
legitimate concerns over U.S. hegemomic policies and our direct manipulation of
other "sovereign" nations. Maybe Americans would be aware of the history of our
involvement in this area (from supplying Sadam with weapons to kill Iranians to
setting up puppet dictatorships (Shaw, anyone?)) if more of these voices were
heard.
"Radical" Islamic voices would become as ludicrous in the melee as "radical"
American patriotism, so let them speak. If I can tune out Mr. Limbaugh as
assinine, empty half-truths, I'm sure I could tune out Syed Abul Ala Maududi as
well.

I hear just as much nonsense and "radical" beliefs every time I "catch up on"
the white supremacy movement here in America. If you think Islam holds the
market on radical lunacy like this, you're pretty wrong.
The thing Americans are *not* getting are all the Muslims who do not hold these
radical views. So we harbor more and more fear, just like good sheep.
There will always be those who hate us, just like there will always be those
among us who hate them. There will always be fanatical supremicists (national
and religious), and they should be condemned wherever they are and debunked in
the dialogue.
But before this situation in the middle east can ever hope to be rectified, we
are going to have to ask ourselves what would we do as citizens if a foreign
nation was controlling and manipulating our wealth, if we had a "Shaw" placed
in power after a foreign nation removed Bush because he was not "friendly" to
their economic interests. We will never stop the anger and hatred until we
realize that we have a large role in the blame.
If we don't, if Americans are never forced to hear the entire dialogue, then
pretty soon we may have Venezualan "extremists" to contend with as well.

Platt, I take it you favor an invasion of Saudi Arabia and North Korea? And put
China down too (since they are the single greatest violator of human rights).
Honestly, taking such a high-moral stand against Iraq and Sadam compared Hitler
is like launching a campaign to ban "darn" from television but finding no fault
with the use of the word "fuck" (pardon the language, it's just to make a
point).
Well, I better go, I think I hear voices outside... GAH! Its the Islamic
fundamentalists! Nooooooooooooooooooooooo....... ;-)
