"Christ Cracks Me Up"
When life's gettin' ya down and your back's against the wall don't turn to
booze or psychotherapy or pills; think "Fisher of Men."
Did you miss your bus? Bird shit in your slurpy after another day of your
finite, insignificant life-spark sucked-off by corporate overhead
fluorescent lighting?
Resist the urge to veer your rusty '87 Ford Escort into that oncoming
Hummer. Actually, on second thought...no, don't do it; just get turned-on to
the "Light-of-the-World."
If people flip you off in traffic or wimpy emo-kids flick Marlboro butts at
your forehead (maybe you have a five-head, Jesus, especially if you have
five-head); I tell you what, you just pull your noggin out of that oven and
reach for The Bible, my friend!
It's the impossible, three-for-one, God-the-Father-Spirit-and-Son, divinely
authorized, as well as inspired, biography of "He Who is Unknowable!"
Maybe cost you twelve or fifteen bucks at Borders, depending on the version.
Salvation lies within; it takes the form of comic relief via the
Lamb-of-God's wacky one-liners and sheer, raving lunacy. Sure, he was King
of the Jews, but more importantly, he was an incredibly cognitively
dissonant King of the perfectly timed, but utterly unpredictable
high-larious non-sequitor.
For example, Jesus said:
If any [man] come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and
children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot
be my disciple.
-Luke 14:26, King James Version
Zing!
Wonder why we don't hear that gem quoted so much? A bit of a departure from
"The Sermon on the Mount," huh?
Now I understand Dubya's obsession. Sort of.
Best,
Chuck
