  • Next message: David Morey: "Re: MD Pirsig and Geoffrey Read's The Coherent Universe"

     once more with feeling:

platt:"If it wasn't the military, neither you nor I
would be free to have this
discussion. As Pirsig points out, the military
    protects society (which
includes all of us) from biological forces such as
    radical Islam."

gav: of course this is overly simplistic. the use of
the US military for economic gains (for a tiny western
minority) in the middle east is endangering everyone
and encouraging, fomenting, radical islam. platt, have
    you seen fahrenheit 9/11?
are there seriously people on this list that believe
what´s being done to the innocent people of iraq and
to the slightly less innocent american soldiers in
    iraq
    is necessary or justified?
i would be careful if i were u platt. some could
interpret such comments extremely harshly, with some
    justification.

platt: "Questions you failed to answer, for whatever
    reason:

Is a socialist society open to DQ?"

gav: one of the points of the moq - actually it was
put most eloquently in zamm - was that any ideology,
springing from the same shoddy version of reason, is
going to be crap in practice. can we leave that
    now....please platt!!!!!!!!!!!!

platt: "Are you in favor of ideological diversity on
    campus?"

gav: again: F**K IDEOLOGY. i am in favour of no
    ideologies on campus.

platt: "Can you list some non-SOM intellectuals?"
gav: me, ant, others on the list, sometimes even you
    platt.

platt:Does the intellectual level consist of ideas?
    gav: yes

    platt:Is eliminating monopolistic practices moral?
    gav: depends

platt:Is it moral for government to be unaccountable
    for the money it spends?
gav: no. but i would say governments are nearly always
    immoral, period.

platt:How do you identify an "MOQ intellect?"
    gav: talk to them

platt: What would be the "MOQ Manifesto" to overhaul
    society?
    gav: contradiction in terms

    platt: Is mysticism intellectual?
    gav: yes and no

platt: Has SOM intellect created "social catastrophe?"
    gav: indirectly.

platt: Does the quality of goods and services play a
    primary role in a free
    market?
    gav: sometimes (advertising, branding, mass
production, quantity/over quality tend to limit this).

platt:Is it possible to have a free market of thought
    without social means?
gav: no. you need to be able to speak or write a
    language.

platt: Your reluctance to answer such questions is
    disappointing and leads me
    to
believe you are more interested in supporting your
    pacifist left-wing
views than debating the issues raised in the MOQ.
    Which is OK. No one
    is
obligated to respond in kind to anybody on this site.
    That's what makes
    it
high quality, not by what is written, but by its
    invitation to anyone
    to
express his views. However, from a self-described
    "intellectual," I had
    hoped for better.

gav: they were pretty well nothing questions platt.
oh and be careful or you´ll blow ant´s cover...a
certain bearded cigar chomper is grooming him as his
    successor.

    see ya
