[Scott:] Well, the second noble truth is usually stated more like "Suffering is caused by attachment". (The third is that it is possible to overcome attachment, and the fourth is the method of doing so, called the eight-fold path.) It is the case that methods to escape (e.g., seeking material success, drugs, television) do evince attachment, but one could argue that the eight-fold path is an attempt to escape suffering, one that works. In any case, attachment is the cause, suffering is the result, so learn detachment.
