"The unexamined life is not worth living."
I think ol' Soc said that right before he was put to death for heresy.
What a trooper!
In that same ballpark me thinks.
Best, C.

It was the motto at the Delphic temple. Socrates was aware of it, but was
also told that the Delphic oracle had declared him the wisest of men. He
puzzled over this, since he didn't know anything, and decided that
wisdom/knowing one's self was knowing that he didn't know.

All of the above? There is a phrase used by a Japanese philosopher, Tanabe
Hajime, which is "absolute critique", with the self being the main focus of
this critique. I think that ties in well with "know thyself". It is
applying intellect to oneself, and never accepting a final answer.
