So why did you say "your understanding" in the statement?

    msh says:
Because I was talking to you, and naturally slipped into "your"
rather than "one's." But this doesn't matter because the statement
is true for you or anyone else.

    platt:
So you were applying the statement to me after all.

    msh says:
You and anyone else who fails to recognize the poetic nature of ZMM
    and LILA, especially of ZMM.

    platt:
So now ZMM and LILA are poems? Surely you jest.

    msh says:
I've said "poetic nature" more than once. This is sort of off-topic
    isn't it?

    platt:
Sez Pirsig. Dynamic Quality chooses freedom over one-sided fixed
values and in so doing has created the levels of value from inorganic
to intellectual. Or haven't you read Lila?

    msh says:
What I've read in LILA is that individuals and the levels evolve, or
fail to evolve (latch), through individual apprehension, or
misapprehension, of Quality. Isn't this the sense of creation he's
talking about? He doesn't mean, does he, that Quality creates
individuals in the way a painter chooses paints and brushes to create
a painting? Or in the way God is sometimes said to have created the
    heavens and the earth?

    Best,
