Sorry, I wasn't meaning to be snide or derogatory, it's just that BR doesn't inspire me in the way
that LW has. But I think that probably has at least as much to do with my own temperament as
anything intrinsic to those philosophers. I think 'hero' is a valid word to use; I tend to think of
the 'hero' as being the one who exemplifies characteristics that are nascent in ourselves, and
spending time understanding or emulating the hero figure can actually be helpful in allowing us to
bring our own qualities to full expression. It happens automatically with children and parents I
guess; perhaps it only ends with those mythical 'self-actualised' creatures of Jungian analysis.
Pirsig is a bit of a hero in that sense, to me, although whether as the narrator of ZMM or as
Phaedrus I'm not sure. I certainly identify with the relentlessness of Phaedrus in seeking out the
truth.
