    Hi Folks,

Nice discussion group you've got going, and I am excited to have found it.

Have you ever discussed Jonathan Edwards? I looked in the archives, but didn't
see anything there (they are not searchable?). Check out the synopsis of this
book at amazon and tell me if this doesn't sound like the MOQ. It's slightly
different in that Edwards doesn't have those four distinct levels of static
quality that MOQ has (or the arbitrary distinctions), or the idea of the levels
being in opposition to each other, and of course it is theological (is that OK
here?), but his conception of God is really quite synonomous with Quality
    sometimes

(and other times it is of the "Angry God" he's usually remembered for). I
    think you'd be interested:

"The Theological Philosophy of Jonathan Edwards" by Sang Hyun Lee

My favorite JE book is "Jonathan Edwards and the Visibility Of God" by James
Carse, and it's out of print now. Very interesting and explains Edwards'
Philosophy more generally and his place in the birth of America.

I was excited to see that Robert Pirsig wrote the blurb of recommendation on
the back of one of James Carse's other books, "Finite and Infinte Games",
leading me to think that maybe the MOQ-Edwards connection might have been made
by Pirsig himself. That book is interesting also. Pirsig's quote was
something along the lines of "Usually a book adds new facts to existing
knowledge, but this book adds new knowledge to existing facts". The basic idea
of that book is that finite games are played to be won, whereas infinte games
are played to be played forever, never concluded. But even though you'll
probably run out and get the Games book because of the Pirsig recommendation, I
recommend the Edwards books more to you, as they relate more to MOQ.

    Jay
