actually consciouness has to therefore somehow be there to do
the differentiating, but is this not a Scott type contradictory identity?

Yes, is not self awareness prior to any separation that then produces
a potential subject-object experience? But it is a long story
before we get to the self-awareness of subjectivity to allow
true objects to emerge.
