If he and his family had a biological record of beheading my innocent
neighbors, I would call in a smart bomb in a New York minute.
Indeed! And aren't we all in it together, as liberals always point out? If
that's true, then an analogy based on that shouldn't bother them. We're all part
of one human body. Saddam was a cancer that had a proven history of
spreading. We can contain this cancer, treat it and bombard it with radiation, hurting
healthy cells as much as the cancer. (analogous to the sanctions which hurt
the civilians more than Saddam--we were morally obligated to correct our immoral
decision not to push into Iraq in 91). Or we can do the one thing to get rid
of that SPECIFIC cancer forever. CUT IT OUT. Yes, there will be severe trauma
to surrounding healthy tissues. We have to keep in mind that we are all in it
together, the entire body. (Reminder: while there are other potentially
cancerous areas, none of them had the history of spreading like Saddam). The
insurgents are not cancers--they are infections, as the surgery to remove the cancer
weakened Iraq's immune system temporarily. These infections are fighting tooth
and nail against the antibiotic US Forces. The area still has a high fever to
be sure. I think that the surgery and doses of medicine (democracy pills)
will break the fever. ALSO...taking out Saddam sends a scary message to other
potentially threatening governments. While we might have trouble with
nation-building, we can REMOVE actual governments ruled by tyrants pretty damn quick. If
you think this doesn't worry the tyrants of the world, you are wrong in my
opinion. Having troubled with reconstruction does nothing to weaken the message
sent by Iraqi Freedom: that existing governments can be wiped out in a couple
of weeks by the United States (and with little help from the UN). The
terrorists sent the world a message on 9-11. The United States sent the world a message
with Operation Iraqi Freedom. The terrorists can knock down buildings. The
United States can knock down entire governments. The terrorists INTEND to kill
civilians. The United States does NOT. Repeat, the US does NOT intend to kill
civilians! Yet we get yelled at more for accidental civilian casualties than
the terrorists do for INTENTIONAL murders! Repeat, they kill civilians
INTENTIONALLY! The US isn't proud of people who get killed. The terrorists videotape it
and hold up severed heads. You tell me which is evil? INTENT MATTERS! It
MATTERS, damn it. God Bless America. (In case someone mentions the prison abuse
scandal, it does NOT reflect the true heart of the US military any more than a
single bad apple, such as a delinquent teen, reflects the true heart of a
household of, say, ten family members).
