    Dear Wim,

Thanks for the information on Dutch immigration and emigration. What will
be the situation in the future is anybody's guess, but the fact that in
2004 some 110,000 people decided to leave the country does raise
    questions.

Regarding illegal immigrants getting "payments," I'm not sure whether
giving them a personal registration number makes them "legal" or not. In
any event, immigration of an inordinate number of children and old people
would put a strain on any welfare system that depends on forcible income
    redistribution.

You didn't comment on the remark by Ellen Bles that "There are so many
rules that nobody sticks to them, " and the escalation of bombings of
churches and mosques "because the police and the state aren't doing
anything about." From what I read here, the street murder of Van Gogh by a
radical Muslim has had a profound effect on the Dutch psyche.

    I hope to respond soon.

    With Christmas greetings,
    Platt
