That is so depressing to read. If people think I'm trying to restrict mysticism to professional
christianity then I've really been confusing the issue.
I'll stick to the bus-driving analogy. Bus driving can be done well or badly, and when it is done
with a complete transparency to Quality then that's what I think is mystical and it doesn't need a
high priest of the omnibus to authenticate the process (although a teacher can tell you if you tend
to brake too hard and cause the passengers to be jolted on a regular basis; if you're already paying
attention to that yourself, you're most of the way there).
All I believe is that if you want to walk down the path of Christian faith, also known as the
Christian mystical path, then it's not a bad idea to pay attention to those who have walked the path
before. Doesn't make it the only path, doesn't mean it's the best path available, just means that it
is A path and there is some information that might be helpful if you want to walk it. How that
becomes a hierarchy of power and ritual is historically clear, but I'm really not wanting to defend
the Inquisition.
Honestly.
