    DMB,

Maybe west coast pagans are different than east coast pagans. (I've never
    been to a Rainbow Gathering.)

Joseph Campbell was great, but his words were not burnt into stone
tablets. Gods and Goddess are archetypes. They are fingers pointing to
the Moon, not the Moon. I would never suggest that patriarchy be replaced
by matriarchy, but patriarchy should be displaced. Personally, I like what
I'm reading of Zen. It's atheistic and finds everything sacred. I like
that in a philosophy/religion. Zen doesn't tell you what to think, it
shows you how to get the clearest evidence to make the best choice. Isn't
that what MOQ is concerned with, 'high quality events'? Yet a good
letting-go around a fire circle is a high quality event, indeed. Whether
in a crowd, or solitary, I will always find energy to celebrate Nature.

I'm happy you experienced being "known as the honorary co-host, master of
ceremonies and the self-appointed shaman of the tribe." Do you bellydance
    too?

    Marsha
