Hi Platt,
Oops. Thought I might slide that little bit of libel right by you. I
forgot you'd be reading this. Darn. My apologies. But at least you
got a New Year's chuckle out of it.
In fairness I should have said "This is OFTEN my friend Platt's
method of discussion, at least when it comes to politics." Most
notably when he's interacting with anyone slightly to the left of
Rush Limbaugh. Examples...
"According to Human Rights Watch, the US has imprisoned
proportionally far more of its citizens than any other nation on
earth..."
"I don't believe anything THEY say..."
"This is verified by analyzing prison records in the US..."
"No. It's leftwing propaganda..."
"The same thing is reported by the Cato Institute and Rand
Corporation."
"These are organizations promoting a left-wing agenda. I don't
believe anything they say..."
"Isabel V. Sawhill says: Poverty is one of America's most persistent
and serious problems. The United States produces more per capita than
any other industrialized country... Despite our wealth...poverty is
more prevalent in the United States than in most of the rest of the
industrialized world."
"Never heard of her... sounds like radical leftwing propaganda...
The U.S. economic system is the greatest on earth, providing the
highest quality of life to everyone..."
"Her report is based on the 2000 census..."
"Sorry. I don't believe that..."
"CBS Marketwatch reports the richest one percent of the U.S.
population saw its financial wealth grow 109 percent from 1983 to
2001, while the bottom two-fifths watched as its wealth fell 46
percent. "
"CBS? The Communist Broadcasting System? I don't believe anything
they say... The American free-enterprise system is the most equitable
socio-economic arrangement on earth..."
"Noam Chomsky says that ..."
"Chomsky's a Marxist hack who hates America and everything about it.
He supported Pol Pot and Stalin and denies the Holocaust and wants to
turn America into a Communist Dictatorship. I don't believe
anything he says..."
"Have you ever read Chomsky? Verified his documentation?"
"I don't have to read someone to know what he thinks... I watch the
FoxNews Network..."
O well, enough giggles for now.
Anyway, Platt, I'm trying to walk the Eight-Fold Path, so please
accept my apologies. And let's not talk politics this year. :-)
Best,
Mark Steven Heyman (msh)

I had to laugh at your criticism based on a complete absence of facts to support your argument, contradicting your own one-right-way to debate. Oops. Pointing out this lapse of logic makes me a "smart ass" in the opinion of some. So to forestall any complaint, permit me to apologize in advance for invoking logic on a site devoted to intellectual level discussion. :-) Platt MOQ.ORG - http://www.moq.org Mail Archives: Aug '98 - Oct '02 - http://alt.venus.co.uk/hypermail/moq_discuss/ Nov '02 Onward - http://www.venus.co.uk/hypermail/moq_discuss/summary.html MD Queries - horse@darkstar.uk.net To unsubscribe from moq_discuss follow the instructions at: http://www.moq.org/md/subscribe.html
