Dear Matt P.,
You wrote 15 Mar 2005 18:45:59 -0800:
'I dont give a damn whether god exists or does not. This does not change who
I am, how I act, and what I think. "It" only becomes an issue, if you make
it one. It only has value, if you give it value.
I find it relentlessly boring to still be focusing an argument around the
existence of god, or what have you. It is fruitless. pointless. hopeless.
How many more centuries of discussion shall we waste on this perpetual
argument?????????
Lets just accept others' beliefs (not saying that anyone here doesnt) and
get on with it!
This forum lacks a sense of community, and this lack startles me. Why, I
ask, must a group of intelligent folk such as ourselves (modesty replaced by
honesty) discuss circles around each other? As guilty as anyone, I can take
no more.
Speak of/about god/atheism/belief ..... I don't mind. I'll be posting
something about community, so i can somewhat clarify what I mean.'
For me God is 'that which connects everyone and everything'. Whether I
believe this connectedness is there DOES change who I am, how I act and what
I think.
The point is NOT the ontological status of a thing/person we call 'God'.
'It/he/she exists/doesn't exist.'
'To believe' means 'to trust' for me.
The point (for me) IS whether we trust this connectedness enough to create
community (and wholeness of creation). God does change us if defined in the
right way.
So, yes, please do write about community.
With friendly greetings,
Wim
