Well, I've had too many valuable political discussions, on this list
and elsewhere in life, to agree that political debate of any kind is
low-quality, if that is what you are saying. If all parties in a
discussion, whether or not it's political, are willing to evaluate
evidence and argument presented to them, and in turn present evidence
and argument in defense of their positions, the results can be very
high-quality indeed. Minds can be changed through sincere political
discussion; it's happened to me, and I've seen it happen to hundreds
of others in my life.

I already know Platt talks 99% twaddle, and I can't see you changing
his mind. In fact, like Dawkins, by protesting so much you run the
risk of painting yourself into the opposite extreme corner. Which
would be sad.

Here I agree with you 100%, and will take your advice to heart. No
more wasted effort on lost causes.
