    Hi Dan, Tim, and all,

    A minor literary digression...

FWIW, I'm not bothered at all by LC being classified as fiction. In
my experience of reading and loving fiction for 40 years, the
fictionists write as much if not more truth than the philosophers,
who have a tendency to become self-absorbed, IMHO, of course.

Read Mellvile, Twain, Jack London, Dreiser, Sinclair Lewis,
Steinbeck, Faulkner, Capote, Bellow, John Fowles (especially the
French Lieutenant's Woman), and you'll see what I mean.

Oops, in reviewing my list I see they are all Americans, except
Fowles. But I bet the Brits on this list can supply a bunch of truth-
revealing fictionists all their own. Dickens, Hardy, Conrad, Joyce,
Maughm, Graham Greene, Kingsley and Martin Amis...

Anyway, the point is that fiction doesn't mean not true.

    Best,
    Mark Steven Heyman (msh)
