Hi Ham,
I'll respond to your basic critique of the MOQ in simple terms, as you
requested.
> Apparently you folks are so intimidated by
> the scourge of SOM that you can't allow even the concept of a material
> reality prior to human experience.
Wrong. We allow the concept. We call it a high quality concept. But we
recognize it as an assumption. We cannot directly experience reality prior
to our experience.
>That's ironic because, to people like
> me, the MoQ's major shortcoming is its failure to acknowledge a
> transcendent reality!
Wrong. We acknowledge transcendent reality. We allow the concept. We call
the "aesthetic continuum, " a high quality concept. But we recognize it as
an assumption, though by rare instances of beauty we directly experience
it prior to assumptions.
We believe our MOQ and your metaphysics are both based on assumptions
that follow from value-loaded direct experience. For reasons we've given
over the years, we consider the assumptions of the MOQ to be better than
those of your Essentialism. You believe your reasons for supporting your
metaphysics are better than ours for supporting the MOQ. The difference we
believe is value-loaded experience, yours vs. ours, which we believe to be
reality for us both.
Why believe that direct experience is value-loaded? The best answer, "See
for yourself." The logical answer, "Because you cannot refute the belief
without asserting a value."
But, there is no one right answer to the question, "What is real?" any
more than there is only one right way to think. We argue as if right and
wrong answers exist only because logic so demands. And because it's fun.
Best,
Platt
