I stand corrected. Permit me to rectify the horror of such
negligence.
I've read the passage you quoted from Chap. 13 several times, and all
of Chap. 13, and have yet to discover where Pirsig says pursuit of
UNLIMITED wealth threatens society.
I beg the pardons of all who were offended by such a grievous (even
if immaterial and irrelevant) omission.
msh 7-14-05:
Pirsig doesn't say that income taxes are immoral, or that government
intervention to prevent monopolies should be prohibited, yet you
believe these ideas follow from Pirsig's claim that individual
freedom cannot be abridged, even though you've yet to make an
argument along those lines.
On the other hand, I believe a strong argument has been presented
that the unlimited accumulation of individual wealth can and has led
to the destabilization and eventual destruction of societies.
Therefore, a society has a moral obligation to limit the accumulation
of personal wealth, according to the principles of the MOQ.
So far, you've refused to analyze and respond to this argument.
