Scott, MSH,
If anyone was really looking for a non-theistic explantion of
consciousness, they'd have no trouble finding one (or many), which
makes me suspect the motives of those who don't find any, wimps or
not. (By theistic I mean invoking a transcendent causal conscious
"god".)
As to whether Aristotelian logic is the best form of explanation, I
doubt it, but that's a separate issue. Unless you're trying to
disprove something, having "faith" in science is merely suspending
disbelief in a regime that has successfully explained quite a lot
already. Any other kind of faith is highly suspect to me.
Smullyan's "Is God a Taoist ?" is the best of the most recent I've
come across, and it get's remarkably close to Pirsigian Quality
en-route.
