Space is required for anything that's spatial extended. In a classical view that's substance, but we got rid of that. That's the SOM-paradox or contradiction, if we do not find a smallest particle, how do we account for space? It really means there does not exist a single spatial extended particle. So this implies that if there does not exist a spatial extended particle, there does not exist a particale that can have a spatial position. Therefor there does not exist distance, for distance is the difference in coordinates between A and B (i.e. the difference between 2 spatial positions).
The time-bit is a bit trickier, I haven't quite formulated argumentation for that yet.
