Hi Ian,
I'm not sure we know where we are headed either. :-) Got some ideas, though, and
I'd like to consider somethings other than taxation. But those posts will come
shortly.
With your points below I find myself in complete agreement. I especially like
how they refer to BOTH private and public (aka government) organizations
(sorry, habit requires me to use the "z" ;-)).
> (1) Goal oriented organisations, generally behave like pathological
> psychopaths. (Anon)
Because, I think, power seeks to reify, and power is "more easily" attained by a
group than an individual. That is, no one person could have easily amassed the
power of Enron or the IRS.
> (2) Committees or moral men (often) make immoral decisions. (The US
> very own John Z Delorean.)
Did you know you can buy relatively inexpensive Deloreans on Ebay motors? I kid
you not.
> (3) Board members often behave like they lose their morals in the
> drive to the office, and many of them go to church with their families
> on Sundays too. (Australian management institute.)
Well, I think this says a lot about religion, too. But it also smacks of what
they used to call "mob mentality". Not sure what the current buzzword for that
is.
> Individual freedoms can't be extended directly to organisational
> freedoms, I guess is what I'm saying.
This is, I believe, MSH's central thesis. And one I agree with. Organizations
(public and private) need to be open to community review. Without this, the
possibility for corruption runs too great.
