nice one marsha.
needless to say i agree wholeheartedly.
of primary importance in the MOQ is DQ/sq split: the
code of art. how we break sq down is always going to
be secondary to this and, as is the nature of
'things', always open to interpretation...and
argument.
this doesn't mean to say the static level hierarchy is
not important. for one thing it brings the social
sciences within the aegis of science proper. this is a
very big deal when you think about it...it totally
revolutionises 'science': science is now able to
handle all the intangibles it pretended didn't exist
without losing its...sorry...;-)... objectivity.
but to get back to DQ......
the code of art is trumps. the dynamic/static split
meshes the moq in nicely with process philosophy and
many eastern strands. i think this strong point of
overlap with more orthodox philosophy is very
important to the moq finding its feet academically. i
also think a tie in with chalmers hard problem of
consciousness (qualia etc) could be fruitful, cos the
moq solves it (or should i say 'dissolves' it :-)).
back to the point.....

DQ connects everything.
DQ is of course beyond literal definition....it is
*revealed*. it is disclosed tangentially,
metaphorically, intuitively....you have to come at it
sideways not head on. and DQ can be revealed by
anything...any medium, any act. it is all
pervasive...analogous to qi perhaps: formless,
invisible but you can feel it sometimes. so...what
point am i making....hmmmmmmmmm.....i guess i am
saying that we can disclose DQ no matter what the
subject matter. in fact maybe that is the point: maybe
we need to start *grounding* more of our writing in
our everyday experiences and memories....what we KNOW,
not what we THINK. perhaps at the mo we are getting
too abstract upstairs.
cos in the end it is the *revelatory* points that are
most powerful, that are most effective in breaking
through the barriers of conditioning. these quality
anecdotes, aphorisms or allegories are our ammo...our
SOM armour piercing ammo. maybe we need to stock up on
these.
on methods:
well i guess there are many methods already out there
from tai chi to mushrooms to hanging out by yourself
in the forest for a week (whilst doing tai chi and
taking mushrooms just to be sure). i guess doing
everything with intent and mindfulness is key, which
is a lot bloody harder than it sounds when you live
with stress (anyone who doesn't?). so our methods have
to be holistic i think. we need to take care of the
biological and social patterns if our intellectual
patterns are going to be roadworthy vehicles on the
trip to DQ.
as far biological patterns go, our food is often
without nutritive value. mineral deficient for
starters, add some chemicals and strange industrial
processing techniques and you have what is effectively
slow acting poison, not sustenance. hygiene products
again are mostly poisons, as is sunscreen. i wont go
on and bore you...just let me say that a return to a
simpler more natural way of life is key here.
so that's the biological, what about the social?
simple: community. fortunately i have had a bit of
experience of living and working in community based
situations. stress goes way down....mutual love and
respect way up. nice eh?
and as to how we go about offering our knowledge to
others.....david buchanan was on to something i think
with the idea of hitting them in the mythos (that's
where it will sink in). bringing the unconscious into
consciousness....breaking the spell.
what spell....? that's for someone else to tackle.
thanks again marsha...that got me going again.

ps but don't be so impertinent in the future!
