Thanks Erin for kicking me out of lurk mode and greetings to one and
all moq'ers everywhere. My name is John Carl, but I go be 'jc'.
Glad to make your acquaintances. I'm a carpenter and contractor, 45,
father of four, husband of one, living in the Northern California
foothills of the Sierras, about an hour east of Sacramento. No
degrees, no social accoutrements to recommend me, nevertheless I've
been intellectually oriented most of my life. I was introduced to
ZMM in the mid 80's at a California Community College by one George
Sessions, a philosophy professor who was instrumental in the early
development of the Deep Ecology movement. Which was heavily
influenced by Zen. But the essence of it all was an emphasis upon
going to man's relationship with the natural environment as a source
of values, rather than applying man's socially reinforced value
systems upon the natural world. The big bugaboo was the Christian
ethos to subdue and dominate the planet, placing man as the
hierarchical head of the whole planet.

I dipped my toe in these waters (moq-discuss) briefly some years
back. Went through some life changes at the time which precluded
involvement in things like e-mail and yet I've been thinking about
quality ever since I read ZMM and metaphysics of quality ever since I
read Lila. I'm intensely fascinated in RMP's thinking and writing
and put him up there with my most profound personal influences.

However I'm a bit impatient with arguments of metaphysics. I'm
interested in politics. As in, how to bring these ideas to fruition.
When and where does the rubber meet the road? When do quality ideas
and metaphysical systems start to make any real difference in
society. It seems to me more pragmatic dialogue needs to take place.

I think here in America, we need a new political party. The American
Quality Party. The problem with our country's right/left
orientation is that so often quality is sacrificed in the name of
winning. The goal of the AQP would be to provide the good ideas
rather than the right ones or the leftover ones. No, the means of
the AQP would be to provide the good ideas. The goal would be to
bring quality discussion to the table. Anytime either side heeded
the good, it would be a victory for our party, regardless of who won
    what games.
