I think I known what you are saying, but there is surely
some forms of experience/being where using the word
conscious seems a stretch.
the formed rock on the floor
the beating of your heart
the reflex of the knee joint
the cosmos in its plasma state
there is something that sustains these states
that makes them nearer to sleepy SQ rather than
striving DQ but they are a long way from the
agency at the level of the human.
Scott:
As I've explained several times, most recently in my latest post to Paul, I
am not saying that a rock is conscious or intelligent, nor is it an
autonomous individual. As a comparison, a single word is very seldom
meaningful -- one needs a sentence or phrase at least -- and the items you
mention have been isolated out of the context that makes them meaningful.
And for sentences one also needs a speaker or hearer to call them
meaningful. (But here one must be careful to avoid saying that the
meaningful context in which a rock plays a role requires a separate hearer,
that is, one wants to avoid SOM-talk).
