Sam,
>Hmm. I like the language of philosophical honesty, but have I accused
>someone (in particular) of being "philosophically dishonest"?
Paul: Not that I know of.
>My claim is that the mainstream tradition has a particular understanding of
>what "God" means - one that I also accept. I think there are lots of
>examples (not least in this forum) of perspectives which a) claim to reject
>'the Christian God', but b) don't understand what 'the Christian God'
>means.
>It's not clear to me why that should lead to your charging me with
>dishonesty.
Paul: I didn't think I was charging you with dishonesty, Sam, so apologies
if it came across that way. I was mainly interested in how you squared
Wittgenstein with your claim to know what 'God' really means while others
didn't, as if there is an arbiter or neutral reference point outside of
one's language-speaking community. I think you've near enough done that
with your answer.
Regards
Paul
