I agree completely with you on free choice. However, I don't know
for sure about "purposes of their own". When they are driven by
socially created motives, they often think they are on their own
path. But really they are serving social purposes and evolvings of
which they knew not. Choice really only comes in when there is
intellect. You have to percieve and analyse before you can choose.
So a lot of times, the only true answer to the dilemma between
intellect and society is, it depends. That's why I question this
analytic division. Not because it's not useful, but because it can
create more problems than it can solve, if you are not real careful.
And that's what I try to be.
