Yep. I was having a conversation with a conservative friend a few weeks back
(no, not Platt :-)). He expressed moral indignation at how the people of Iraq
were behaving like "hoodlums" (unlike the "civilized" Americans).
All it takes is a quick tragedy to remind us how quickly we too will degenerate
to the behavior of biological level. There are good people in New Orleans, just
as there are good people in Iraq. But when you have US citizens who snipe at
medical rescue workers, "appalling" is the only word that comes to mind.
How quick we drop, yes indeed.
