Ian:
It's (Hurricane Katrina) another cloud with a silver
lining - a dynamic disaster with a potentially net
positive outcome, who knows?
Mark:
The logic of this position may suggest that we allow
ever more Global warming to occur in order to
facilitate Dynamic disasters and their potential to
generate net positive outcomes. Sort of keep the
Dynamic pot boiling?
I view Katrina in terms of Maintenance:
Ian:
For me this is the way in which DQ can be said always
to be progressive - every problem is an "opportunity".
In the evolutionary model, every mutation is random,
but each holds the opportunity for progress up the MoQ
layers.
Mark:
I'm happy to contemplate random influences in
evolution, at least at the Organic level.
Levees are not random mutations; they are static
strategies developed by higher evolutionary levels in
order to protect and maintain those higher levels from
the potentially destructive influence of lower levels.
This is what the MOQ says about the matter; it is a
moral process.
Allowing New Orleans - a Human society - to be left
vulnerable to Inorganic influence on the scale it was
is immoral.
Mark
