The only thing I've actually read from Bataille is that introduction from Eroticism. I'm reading it for a class right now. Actually, I like a lot of what I've read but I'm inclined to ignore anything that refers to gender at all. Not that they might not be accurate in the sense that he's describing in his theories on eroticism but because of the broader societal implications that people draw from them. The two are totally different scales.
On another note though, I've been reading Verne Dusenberry's "The Montana Cree"... he references contemporaries of Bataille's (Freud, Durkheim and some others)... Look out for a new thread on some interesting connections here :)

PS. Robert:
I don't at all think that Pirsig _derived_ his metaphysics from Christian theology. Ideas are never entirely independent though - it's just something to explore.! :)
