Hi Squank,
I assume you mean Mcwatt's essay on Pirsigs MOQ and not his essay on
education. I have not read this essay thoroughly, but I have glanced
through it for the Pirsig quotes from McWatt's personal correspondance. I
don't remember anything in the essay pertaining to complexity. I also
don't think he brings up comparisons with Wolfram. It is just a vague
parrallel I would like to explore. I am not particularly interested in
Pirsigs thoughts on traditional science or quantum mechanics and the like.
I mean I am interested in that, but I have already explored these ideas to
my satisfaction. Wolfram offers something different and I was wondering if
anyone else has also thought about his ideas in relation to Pirsig, and in
particular, quality. His attempt to describe the complexity in his CA
pictures is very close to Pirsig's attempt to describe quality in student's
essays in ZMM. At least, I thought so.
Thanks,
Andy
