Like "Quality is uncharacteriazable". Pirsig found it useful, and so do I.
Yes, koans are useful to Rinzai Zen folks, but that seems to be more to stop
intellect than assist it. I find self-refutation, or its cousin
self-negation, to be a necessary tool in approaching (not describing)
consciousness, language and the relation between DQ and SQ (what Nishida
calls the logic of contradictory identity, Coleridge and Barfield call
polarity, and Derrida calls (temporarily) differance).
