Hello All,
I am not accusing Skutvik of being a racist.
There have been many thinkers over the centuries who have unwittingly
advocated racist doctrine. In the case of the Skutvik doctrine, the problem is
clearly identified:
'As if those people aren't as mindful or
intelligent as anyone else - and "intellectual" in the sense of being able to
work the S/O divide as a useful TOOL...'
Skutvik does not provide the names of, 'those people' so i shall provide it
for us:
'As if Chinese and Hindi aren't as mindful or
intelligent as anyone else - and "intellectual" in the sense of being able to
work the S/O divide as a useful TOOL...'
I expect the Chinese and Hindi people will just have to be content with
mindful for the time being, but will have to wait for intellect until Skutvik deems
it appropriate for them to have it.
I expect this goes for aborigines also:
'The one remaining "aborigine" (Hi
Platt) will remember how early it turned up in our discussion...'
Nothing racist or culturally denigrating about that you will note; merely the
assertion that aborigine are mindful.
The Skutvik problem does however go back to the early days of the forum. I do
not know how long this is, it may go back to the publication of Lila? So,
since Lila's publication, racism has been accruing in the sedimentary structure
of the forum's common sense.
If common sense is the socially approved set of ideas of a group, then
Skutvik has given the forum a racist common sense. How? The answer is very simple:
In the Skutvik doctrine, (a doctrine often referred to by him as, 'the proper
MoQ) the emergence of reason is called the birth of the intellect. In one
swift move great intellectual traditions of the World are devalued. Thus, the
Skutvik doctrine is intellectually elitist, culturally divisive, and has dire
consequences for racial harmony - all the necessary requirements for the moral
justification for enslavement of the East by Western standards of value.
Non of this is found in Mr. Pirsig's Metaphysics of Quality. Quite the
opposite, for the Metaphysics of Quality introduces harmony and understanding were
the Skutvik doctrine introduces dissonance and division.
Skutvik has been given the opportunity to reflect upon his doctrine. So far,
he has responded with the following:
'Welcome among the sane, now you are making some sense.'
Skutvik takes the opportunity presented to him, not to consider the racist
dimension of his discriminations, but to reassert them with vigour. There have
been many thinkers over the centuries who have unwittingly advocated racist
doctrine. In Skutvik's case, the advocate is fully aware of his doctrine's
assertions.
