I see your point. I don't have the 25th anniversary edition so I can't look
to see exactly what he wrote. But if the meeting described in that quote
was in 61, then it would seem impossible that Pirsig could have met McKeon
in 1960 as the ZMM passage is almost certainly meant to represent their
first meeting (unless it's one of those details that was 'changed for
rhetorical purposes'). Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
