Quality is neither a part of mind, nor is it a part of matter. It is a

DM: OK. Quality is a wider concept than mind or matter.-agreed.
But neither mind or matter is plausible without DQ and SQ.
And mind/matter are dependent on SQ/DQ. The point is simple.
A DQ/SQ split is made instead of the more damaging subject-object
division, it keeps value on both sides of the split, it offers broader
although difficult explanatory power, it gets our focus on process
and away from mechanism, it stops the false ditinction between
primary and secondary qualities, it negates reductionism. Under
MOQ you cannot describe any part of reality in terms of just subjectivity
or objectivity, it has to be described in both its SQ and DQ aspects, and
mind will be just one of these aspects of reality like all the rest, apart
from perhaps it is the most individually dynamic being of all beings,
individually responding to its environment and an unbelievably complex
web of re-cogntion of SQ patterns and DQ activity.

    regards

    Bo:
    Intellect an aspect
of mind?! But as Q-intellect is a static aspect of DQ, it means that
MIND = DQ and THAT one I buy!

    Paul:
Dynamic Quality is mind? Is that really how you see it Bo? And you were
dismayed by Pirsig's "mysterious idealist stance".

    I give up!
