Just can't swallow it. If Pirsig meant longevity, why would he say "absolute" and "scientific". Why would he use the language of objectivity, the language of SOM, if he was trying to get rid of it? It seems to me that, particularly in this passage, that he's trying to co-opt the objectivity of SOM and say that we can be just as objective about morals as we can about rocks.
