Hi MOQ education sympathizers (despairers?)
As a retired schoolman, amateur philosopher/philosophologist, and MOQ
lurker, emerging author I still think about the public school system. That
which is obvious is rarely examined. Here's my take on it what I believe to
be fundamental to the first level chaos which seems to be so dominant:
From antiquity the learner has sought the master. About 150 years ago this
was reversed. The master has sought the learner through the device of
compulsory attendance in public "education." (Something approaching an
oxymoron there). This just doesn't work very well does it? There are tons
of other variables at play, but that is think is a form of Persig's
"giant" - the historical reversal of roles - learner and master. Isn't it
interesting, up here in Canada we still have "head masters" in the private
schools.
