The definitions and the synonyms seem to be a perfect fit with Robert
Pirsig's annotations in Lila's Child. RMP has said that he didn't define the
intellectual level in Lila, and ZMM doesn't pertain directly to the MOQ, so
I don't see why there is an uneasiness over the LC annotations or why a
different formulation of intellect is needed.

Right. Pirsig is only offering us a different way to think about the things
we already know. The data is unchanged. That's why Pirsig's version of the
intellect is pretty much the same as we find in the dictionary. Its a thing
we all know (hopefully) by virtue of living in this world. Clearly, I'm not
too concerned here with any kind of metaphysical truth claims or anything so
fancy as that. Its just a matter of looking around. If one wants to know
what intellectual values are all about, then one should simply look around
and find out what intellectual disciplines are aimed at, find out what
intellectual people find to be most important, find out what kinds of skills
and talents are engaged by such people during such pursuits. I honestly
don't think its any more complicated than that. The part where it goes
beyond common sense is where Pirsig then places all that in an evolutionary
hierarchy, etc..
