    Hi Mati

    Mati:
As far as Bo's SOLAQI I see that his ideas
do nothing to alter Pirsig Metaphysical premise, but trying to provide
rational context for the intellectual level. Your belief of intellect
represents a broad context that in end doesn't provide the latch of
understanding of what intellect is. I will admit I had some issues with
Bo's concept to begin with as others have. I feel he has done a fairly
good job of rationalizing his position. In the context of MD discussion
Bo's ideas are fair game, if not MD may have failed in its ability to
    promote and develop Pirsig's ideas.

    Paul:
I agree that everyone's ideas are fair game and much of my time on this
forum during the summer (and the time of others over the years) was
spent trying to articulate the premises and draw out the conclusions of
Bo's SOLAQI thesis. My conclusion, as evident in the archives, was that
his ideas do significantly alter Pirsig's formulation of the MOQ,
especially in the context of the more explicit metaphysical statements
made by Pirsig after the publication of Lila. It is this conclusion
(which anyone is free to challenge) that makes me say that I'm trying to
apply Pirsig's ideas, not Bo's. It's nothing personal, as I hope Bo
    understands.

Democracy is only a social slogan until you understand the process and
understand the value it represents socially. You can put all the
trappings of Democracy out there and it will fail without its
intellectual value to society as part of the social structure. This is
the real value of education in a democratic state.

    Paul:
Yep, that's pretty much all I'm saying Mati - democracy is both social
and intellectual patterns and, importantly, is the balance between them.
Education certainly has a foot in both camps, as you'll know being a
    school administrator!

    cheers

    Paul
