I suggest that Rorty is pretty averse to grand narratives
but I see this as a form of pessimism. You seem to disagree
with him here.

Pragmatists have no problem with "grand narratives" as long as a grand
narrative is differentiated from a meta-narrative. I don't see the point in
adding the word "grand," but hey, it doesn't matter all that much as long as
it doesn't reach for "meta-" status.
