Hello Matt

I think [Pirsig] is a pragmatic metaphysician.
Matt:
I still don't see why we have to live with such a contradiction. If
humans tend to smooth out contradictions when they come to them, why
insist on this one?
Paul:
It's only a contradiction if you add an invisible "Platonic" to the word
metaphysics. Just because the word was invented by the ancient Greeks,
it doesn't mean that anything else we may call by that name is also
ancient Greek in origin or in spirit. We've done this one to death
though.
If I thought that the MOQ would stand a better chance of becoming a
common system of thought by dropping the moniker of metaphysics then I
would have no qualms. If there was a future edition of Lila, maybe
Pirsig could add a response to the pragmatist opposition to metaphysics
in the section where he discusses the logical positivist's and
philosophic mystics' opposition?
Regards
Paul
