Hi Alicia and David, et al,
David, thanks for reminding us that freedom is the highest value. I
was going to work it into my next message, if someone else hadn't.

gender is a social construct and though it may determine is another
person is attracted to you, it doesn't determine one's own sexual
preference. As an example, transgendered people can be either
straight or gay.
any other thoughts on gender anyone?
msh says:
Well, "gender" is just a word, a very useful one in both scientific
and non-scientific circles. It describes a natural fact. Societies
do have a tendency to overload its meaning, taking a peek into the
diaper and saying "I see. Well, little one, here's what we have in
store for YOU."

Everything is natural or does not exist, the concept of homosexuality
is an intellectual one of course, at the biological level there are
only, perhaps, homosexual acts we might like to say, and these occur
very naturally with all kinds of animals I am told.
msh says:
And told correctly. Such behavior has been observed and well-
documented for years. This, BTW, is strong evidence that such
tendencies are fundamentally biological, not social. Societies
influence how such tendencies are deployed and regarded, that's for
sure. I can't understand why there's any hubbub at all re the
nature-nurture debate, if there still is.
IMO, though, it doesn't matter whether it's bio or social for the
purposes of argument within the MoQ. The "moral" outcome will be the
same, or such would be my position.
Best to all, from my hopelessly heter heart,
Mark Steven Heyman
